In Other Studios: (Natalie Priede)

Natalie Priede is the founder and creative director of Numu. Numu crafts distinctive items to enhance your daily experiences, fostering unity, coexistence, and rituals that leave a lasting impression. Among her designs are vases, candle holders and candles.

Natalie also has a brand named Nash by Nati, where she plays with more organic forms and colors.

We visited Natalie in the beautiful studio where she crafts her unique pieces, surrounded by a community of talented ceramists. The atmosphere was truly inspiring, offering not only a glimpse into Natalie's exceptional work but also providing insight into the diverse ways in which other ceramists channel their creativity through the same medium.

What do you consider to be your most significant source of inspiration?

Natalie: My source of inspiration, both personal and professional, has always been nature. The more I am in contact with it, the more I learn, the more inspiration I find and, without a doubt, the more I feel.

The central idea of the creation of the brand has always been coexistence. I believe that we improve as people by listening to different points of view, and sharing what is ours and that of others. I have always dreamed of bringing people together through central pieces, the possibility of giving and receiving light has allowed the brand to grow over time.

Is there a specific message or theme that you seek to convey through your designs?

Natalie: Without a doubt, the message I seek to convey is to do and create from love, sharing, and spreading the light. The importance of pauses, of moving forward without haste, of calm and tolerance before each of the processes involved.

How do you interpret darkness in your work?

Natalie: Darkness always played a very important role in my artistic creation in general, personally, and in my professional work, it is a daily reminder of the importance of living it, feeling it, and embracing it to turn it into light and that without one, the other does not exist.

How important is “lightness” in your art, whether in terms of light, color, weight, or other aspects?

Natalie: In my first encounter with ceramics, I learned many things, the most important of which are lightness and ease; When coming into contact with the material, the most important factor that has directed my artistic process is to let myself be guided by ceramics and all its possibilities, without rules, without restrictions; Allow myself to be and let the material itself be, in tune with me.

How would you define balance and how do you achieve it?

Natalie: Like the search for balance, which is often not achieved so easily, and in this same imbalance one finds balance. My creative process is never linear, each piece takes its direction, marking its path and it is from there that I find a balance, not necessarily in the process or the finished piece, but in each encounter with ceramics.
